We all have seasons in our lives when we are in search of more.
“More of what God has promised me…”
”More of God…”, “More substance…”
“Just More…”
I have felt like I have been in that season many times throughout my walk with God. I have started many prayers off with,
“God, what more do you want from me?”
“God, increase more of my territory.”
“God I want more of you!!”
I have been impatient many times in my waiting. Sometimes, I try to rush God’s timing. One thing we all can take solace in is this: God has “more” promised for all of us. So, if God has “more” promised to us, what keeps us from receiving the “more” he has for us? Why do we get into these seasons of seeking after more, if it is already there? Reading in Joshua 5, I came across the time that Israel was crossing over the Jordan to take the promised land of God. After crossing, they set up camp in the new promised land. Passover came and Israel stopped to observe it.
“On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover. The day after Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce from the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain. The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan.” Joshua 5:10-12.
After reading this passage from Joshua, I had to stop and read it again. While reading it a second time, the 12th verse stood out. “The manna had stopped…”. God had stopped giving Israel provisions. If you recall, the whole time while Israel was wandering in the desert God would provide Israel with manna as food every morning. This lasted for 40 years. The day after they ate food from the land promised to them by God, there would no longer manna every morning. That year they would eat the produce of Canaan. Israel had finally tasted the promise of God. They had stepped out of His provisions into His promise! Israel had been eating on God’s provided manna for 40 years. They were accustomed to Him always providing what they needed. But, as soon as they ate from what He had been promising He stopped providing the simple. See, manna is great. God’s provisions are great. But God’s promises are even better. Israel was thankful for what God had continued to provide to them, but they weren’t content with just the provisions. Israel was in a season of wanting “More”.
When God calls us to a promise, He will provide what we need to get to that promise.
Some of us stop at the provisions. We don’t move past the simple. We end up forgetting what God has promised us because we are content with what He is already providing us. In my walk with God, I have come to the understanding that every door God opens is just another training ground for the next door that He is wanting to open for me.
Don’t be content with just His provisions but fight for His promises while using His provisions.
God has more intended for you. Start eating from His promises and not just His provision.
Then be ready, because as soon as you start eating from the promise, God will promise you more and the newly acquired promise will become the provision for God’s next promise.
God has more intended for you. He is waiting for you to eat what He has promised first.
